FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) The Allen County Council isn’t earmarking any money for Regional Cities Initiative projects, at least not yet.
The Council Thursday voted down a motion to set aside $3-million after President Roy Buskirk proposed doing so. The Journal Gazette reports that Buskirk was among 18 Republicans who spoke out earlier this week against Greater Fort Wayne Inc.’s push for an increase in the County’s sales tax.
Greater Fort Wayne says that tax increase is needed to raise matching funds for the Regional Cities grant that was awarded to the Fort Wayne area in December.
For now, the $3-million will stay put, but Councilman Bob Armstrong told the Journal Gazette it could still be allocated to Regional Cities projects later.
