BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) _ A private, 32-bed hospital in southern Indiana has announced it has laid off 17 employees as it attempts to save $4 million through cost-cutting moves.
Monroe Hospital CEO Joe Roche tells The Herald-Times the moves will put the facility in Bloomington on more solid financial footing. Roche says only a nursing position was the only job among the 17 eliminated that was involved in direct patient care. The rest were support or administrative positions, primarily in middle management. He says 14 of those who lost their jobs worked full time and three part-time.
Roche says in addition to reducing its staff, Monroe Hospital is cutting costs by renegotiating some contracts and purchasing supplies more efficiently.
