Coastal cameras to improve Clarksville security

CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (AP): A southern Indiana community plans to install cameras along the Ohio River to help improve security.

Clarksville officials tell the News and Tribune (http://bit.ly/1v1VCSh ) that between seven and 10 cameras will be placed on turrets along the more than four-mile Clarksville coastline. They'll keep watch over the Clark Memorial Bridge, Ashland Park, the Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center, the McAlpine Locks and Dams and a railroad bridge.

Clarksville police will monitor the footage from the high-resolution, thermal-imaging cameras.

Police Chief Mark Palmer says the cameras are being purchased with a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He says they'll help the police department search for suspected security threats and sources of heat and will be useful in the response to accidents on the river.
