Crash closes I-70 on east side of Indianapolis…

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Police say a car plunged from an Interstate 70 ramp to a street below on the east side of Indianapolis, after which officers closed all lanes of the highway during the morning commuter rush.

City police Sgt. Steve Staletovich says the car hit a utility pole after it left I-70 and landed on its roof about 30 feet below the highway. He says the car’s driver was killed in the crash about 6 a.m. Thursday.

The crash left a live power line down on Shadeland Avenue, which runs beneath I-70 and ramps with I-465. Staletovich says a truck on I-70 also snagged a power line that was pulled down.

The highway was shut down for a couple hours, causing long traffic backups. The crash’s cause wasn’t immediately known.
