Donnelly Will Vote For Obama

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Democratic Senate candidate Joe Donnelly says he will vote for President Barack Obama in November, despite the political peril of supporting the president in deep-red Indiana.

Donnelly told The Associated Press in a Wednesday interview that he does not agree with everything Obama has done and cited some key votes he has taken against the president while in Congress. But Donnelly says he believes broadly in supporting American presidents and noted his support of former President George W. Bush.

Donnelly has kept some Democrats like former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi at arms-length as he builds the case that he’s an independent Democrat who would better represent Indiana than Republican candidate Richard Mourdock.

Mourdock and other Republicans have spent millions on-air tying Donnelly to the president and calling him “Obama Joe.”
