Explosion destroys small building in W. Ind. city

ATTICA, Ind. (AP): An explosion has destroyed a small building in the western Indiana city of Attica.

Mayor Robert Shepherd tells WLFI-TV that he's been told one person might have been inside the building at the time, but that injuries weren't immediately confirmed from the Tuesday morning blast.

The station reports a natural gas leak was the suspected cause of the explosion at what was described as a counseling center.

The explosion leveled with building, with the walls collapsing and the wreckage smoldering as firefighters poured water onto it.

The Journal & Courier reports several fire departments responded to the scene in the Fountain County city about 20 miles southwest of Lafayette.
