Suspects Charged in College stabbing

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP): Three suspects have been charged with attempted murder in a machete attack on an Indiana man on the campus of Northwestern Michigan College.

Jorge-Antonio Lopez Alvarado and Tony Fabio Orozco were arraigned Monday in Traverse City District Court. They're charged in a Jan. 31 attack on 35-year-old Dwight Johnathan Thompson of Indianapolis.

A 15-year-old was arraigned Friday. He's charged as an adult and faces the same charges as the 21-year-old Alvarado and 18-year-old Orozco.

All three are being held and have requested lawyers. They face preliminary examinations Feb. 21.

Police tell the Traverse City Record-Eagle the suspects confronted Thompson as part of a plan to steal drugs and sell them for money.

Thompson faces drug possession charges. He has no attorney on record with the court.
