FWCS Transportation Meetings for Parents, Begin Tuesday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): We've got a reminder for parents that have students in the Fort Wayne Community Schools District – transportation meetings will be taking place Tuesday.

The meetings have been created to provide parents with information regarding some upcoming changes to the district's transportation services.

They'll be held from 6:00 p.m. -7 :30 p.m., according to the following schedule:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 6 – North Side High School

  • Wednesday, Jan. 7 – Snider High School

  • Thursday, Jan. 8 – Wayne High School

  • Tuesday, Jan. 13 – South Side High School

  • Wednesday, Jan. 14 – Northrop High School

Krista Stockman, Public Information Officer with FWCS, also says the meetings will be held, even if there are school delays and cancellations due to bad weather.

According to a press release, issued by the district, FWCS is in the process of reducing transportation spending by $2.5 million by the 2015-16 school year. The reduction is necessary because property tax caps, known as the Circuit Breaker, have reduced transportation funding by $9.3 million since 2009. This loss is expected to grow to $18.2 million by 2017.
