INDIANAPOLIS (AP): A federal prosecutor in Indianapolis has been recognized by the Executive Office of United States Attorneys for his work on a news-making fraud case.
The U.S. Attorney's office in Indianapolis announced Tuesday that Winfield Ong has received the office's Director's Award for his work in the trial of Tim Durham.
Durham was sentenced to 50 years in prison in 2012 after a federal jury convicted him of securities fraud, conspiracy and 10 counts of wire fraud for operating a Ponzi scheme with Akron, Ohio-based Fair Finance.
A key part of the evidence against Durham was incriminating conversations intercepted during the wiretap of his cellular telephone.
Ong is a 25-year veteran of the U.S. Attorney's Office and is an Evansville native.
