Indianapolis Man Gets 135 Years for Rape, Murder of Woman

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A judge has sentenced an Indianapolis man to 135 years in prison on his convictions for the rape and murder of a 21-year-old woman who was housesitting for her stepmother.

The Marion County Prosecutors Office announced Monday that 52-year-old Morice Ervin had been sentenced in the 2014 slaying of 21-year-old Shannon Kleeman. The sentence handed down Friday included 65 years for murder, 40 years for rape and a 30-year enhancement for being a habitual offender.

Kleeman was found in the basement of an east side home on March 28, 2014, with a gunshot wound to the head. Officials said DNA evidence recovered at the scene linked Ervin to the crime.
