“Month of May” is something IMS and Indianapolis are trying to keep alive and with the lack of experimental equipment, available engines and such the days of “Time Trials” for two weekends is not necessary or desirable. Something new was required and that has been the ‘Grand Prix’. It used to be brand new cars showed up at the track on May 1 and test for two or three weeks.
The rules need to be opened up on May 1 and the teams need to OWN the engines because the manufactures will never take chances and we will never have 50+ cars trying to qualify with manufacturer controlled engines.
