GLEN EDEN, Ind. (WOWO): A swimmer is recovering after a boat hit her while she swam in a Steuben County lake Sunday afternoon.
65 year old Ruth Petitti of LaGrange was swimming on Lake James at around 2 PM Sunday. She was reportedly swimming from a sandbar to where her boat was moored when a motorboat hit her.
The boat was being operated by 38 year old Matthew Gumbel of Angola. Gumbel was not charged after witnesses told officers that Petitti was not visible due to rough and choppy waters.
Petitti is recovering at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne from a fractured foot and lower leg injuries.
