Man Pleads Guilty in 3-Year-Old’s Shooting Death

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP): A northern Indiana man has pleaded guilty to criminal charges in the shooting death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old son while playing a gun game with the boy.

Twenty-four-year-old Zachariah Grisham of Michigan City pleaded guilty to a felony charge of child neglect during a LaPorte County court hearing Thursday.

Authorities say Grisham pointed a handgun at Lance Wilson while the boy was pointing a toy gun back. Grisham told police he forgot his gun was loaded before it fired, killing Lance.

Prosecutors had charged Grisham with a more-serious count of child neglect causing death and reckless homicide. He faces a sentence of eight year to 20 years in prison. His sentencing hearing hasn't yet been scheduled.
