Police Crackdown On Impaired Driving, Seat-Belt Violations

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ State police and other Indiana law enforcement agencies have increased road patrols for the days leading up to Thanksgiving.

Law enforcement organizations throughout Indiana are taking part in the annual Safe Family Travel, Operation Pull Over campaign. The campaign began over the weekend and runs through Dec. 6. Indiana State Police will be conducting high visibility enforcement efforts including sobriety check points and saturation patrols looking for impaired drivers and unrestrained motorists.

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute says there were 520 alcohol-related crashes across Indiana last November resulting in 235 injuries and three fatalities. The National Highway Transportation Safety Board says impaired driving across the nation kills more than 10,000 people per year.
