Indiana Reserve Officer Accused Of Rape, Human Trafficking

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) _ A reserve officer with a central Indiana police department faces preliminary charges of rape, human trafficking and battery.

Fishers Police Department said Lonny Jordan Hatland was arrested Saturday at his home.

Authorities say the Indiana Department of Child Services contacted officers about “a juvenile suffering from various injuries'' who later told authorities that she was assaulted by a man _ later identified as Hatland _ and that he had coerced her into having sex with other men.

The 42-year-old Hatland had been reserve officer with the Muncie Police Department since 1994. Muncie's police chief says Hatland has been removed from the unit.

Hatland was in the Hamilton County Jail on Sunday. His bond is set at $52,500.

It was not immediately known whether Hatland had an attorney.
