SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ The South Bend Common Council has voiced its support for a $480 million plan to build a tribal village and casino in the northern Indiana city.

The council unanimously passed a resolution Monday backing the proposal by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. The band operates Four Winds Casino in nearby New Buffalo, Michigan.

The South Bend project also includes plans for a 500-room hotel, tribal citizen housing and a medical facility. Estimates say the project would create 2,000 permanent jobs.

The federal Bureau of Indian Affairs was scheduled to hold a public meeting about the project Tuesday evening in South Bend. The Pokagon Band had applied to have the development site taken into trust by the agency for the tribe's benefit in 2012.
