INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller says low-income families with children who have disabilities have more options under the state's school voucher program, not fewer.
 
Zoeller says in a legal opinion that a parent or guardian need not accept both a voucher and a special education grant. For example, the parent could choose to continue receiving special education services for the student from a nearby public school.
 
Zoeller says he issued the opinion Wednesday at the request of the Indiana Department of Education and State Board of Education. He says officials had questions about whether a public school is required to provide special education and related services to a disabled student who receives a voucher. 
 
Zoeller's legal opinions are non-binding but are intended to help state officials with complicated issues.
