Potential area job cuts and taking aim at tax abatements, Lucretia Cardenas explains with Charly Butcher

Lucretia Cardenas of “Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly” joined Charly Butcher on “Fort Wayne’s Morning News” to talk about the various articles in this week’s issue:

1) Despite job cuts, UTEC still has supporters
When United Technologies Corp. announced it would shutter operations in Huntington, eliminating more than 700 jobs there, and in Indianapolis, where 1,400 jobs would be cut, there was an understandable “knee-jerk” desire in both communities for retaliation, said Huntington Mayor Brooks Fetters.
2) Norfolk Southern employees watch for cost-cutting impact locally
Employees at Norfolk Southern’s Fort Wayne-based Lake Division are waiting to learn whether they will be affected by massive layoffs it recently announced.
3) Taking aim at tax abatements
With several new conservative members holding seats on the Fort Wayne City Council this year, businesses may encounter more resistance to their requests for tax relief.
4) Fort Wayne City Council moves to stimulate new spec buildings

Limited supply of available industrial space and the economic development potential of specultative buildings led the Fort Wayne City Council to open a new path for granting property tax breaks to spec building developers.
