FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A 5-year-old boy is in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday night.

Fort Wayne police tell WOWO News that just after 7:00 p.m., officers were called to the 4300 block of Marquette Drive in reference to a child being hit. Once there, medics were called in, and the child was taken to a nearby hospital. The boy was last listed in serious condition.

Police say the vehicle was traveling westbound on Marquette Drive, when the boy ran into the street and was hit. The vehicle then took off, but was found moments later. The driver was taken into custody.

Investigators believe that alcohol may have been a contributing factor to the crash.
