NEW HAVEN, Ind (WOWO): A man is dead after running across a set of train tracks in New Haven.

Once officers arrived to the scene Friday night on Broadway in downtown New Haven, they talked to witnesses who say they wanted to “beat the train” by running across the tracks. The Witnesses then stated they stopped running because they knew they couldn’t get across in time, but the victim kept running and was hit at the crossing.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. He has now been identified as 22 year old male, Derek Sowers of Woodburn, IN. The accident remains under investigation at this time by NHPD.
