FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Memorial Day Weekend is not just a weekend of racing, boats, and hot dogs, it’s a day of remembrance. While we go through all of the fun and exciting things to get into this weekend don’t forget the men and women that have made the greatest sacrifice for you to be able to enjoy your freedom..
First and foremost The Indianapolis 500 is back at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 110th running of the world”s most iconic car racing day. The Indy 500 is the largest single day sporting event in the world and I have suddenly become even more of a proud Hoosier recently and willing to drop that little fun fact to anyone that will listen.
Sweet Breeze canal and boat tours also return to our rivers downtown. You and the family or a group of friends can book a 60 minute tour as just one of many packages offered. You’ll learn plenty of history behind the great city we call home on our rivers.
The Fort Wayne TinCaps are in town finishing a home stand against the Dayton Dragons and after Friday nights game the series is tied to leave it up to be anyones game as we head into the weekend. Post game fireworks will be at the conclusion of every game this weekend. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office off of Ewing Street or online at TinCaps.com.
The YLNI Farmers Market is also back on the streets of downtown. The market opened just a couple weeks ago in it’s almost Fort Wayne Famous downtown street take over fashion. Stop by for locally made breakfast or even lunch and a local coffee as you sniff homemade soaps and shop for cool stuff.
Finally, last but certainly not least WWE Night is Saturday’s main event. This marks the first time since 2014 that Fort Wayne will host a televised WWE event and the first time that Saturday Night’s Main Event will be held in Indiana since 1992. Parking is cash only.
Whatever your Memorial Day weekend looks like don’t forget to take a moment to remember our fallen and thank a service member. Pack sunscreen and have a great weekend!
