ANGOLA, Ind. (WOWO): As the U.S. Post struggles to contain looming budget deficits, a new program is placing mail services in Staples stores around the nation and that has the union workers concerned.

Opponents say it may trim expenses, but it's also cutting the standards like background checks, certification and specialized training that are required for postal workers. And it will likely lead to the loss of high-paying jobs.

Friday afternoon from 1:30 to 3:30, members of the state union will rally at Angola's Staples. It's part of a series of similar events going on at the chain around the country.

The post office signed off on the deal last year to start the service in 80 Staples stores nationwide.
