FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A letter offering free credit monitoring for Community Health Systems patients is a legitimate free offer, according to the Better Business Bureau.
The BBB says they've received a number of inquiries about the letter, and have confirmed it is valid.
In August, Community Health Systems announced a data breach that impacted patients across their network, including patients with the Lutheran Health Network in Northeast Indiana.
In the letter, patients are invited to sign up for one-year of free identity theft protection through Kroll ID Monitoring Service. The letter also explains ways you can get a free credit report.
At the time, the company said it believed hackers based in China hacked 4.5 million pieces of non-medical patient data from physicians offices.
