FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): An afternoon fire has caused heavy damage to a home on the south side.

The housefire happened in the 5500 block of South Calhoun. That's just north of Paulding Road.

Residents told firefighters they noticed smoke and were alerted by detector. They were able to got out safely.

Investigators say the fire was in a laundry room.

It took them about 15 minutes to bring it under control.
