Two people have lost their lives in an apartment fire early Sunday morning southeast of downtown South Bend.

Crews were called to the 1200 block of East Haney, which is southeast of Lincoln Way East and Miami Street, around 4:30 am to find the the main floor of the building engulfed in flames.

Five people were inside when the blaze broke out. Four people were rushed to the hospital including two children. Right now, authorities have not identified the two fatal victims, pending notification of relatives. One of the victims is reported to be in critical condition.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined. Fire investigators say it may take days to figure out the cause.
