FRANKLIN, Ind. (AP) _ A rising number of inmates at the Johnson County jail is forcing officials to take steps to ease crowding amid worries that an expansion might be necessary.
 
  Sheriff Doug Cox tells the Daily Journal the jail has been over capacity nearly every day since April 1. He says that’s forced the jail to place temporary beds on floors and has correctional officers on alert for fights.
 
  Cox says the problem could get worse under legislation passed this year that will sentence more offenders to work release and home detention instead of prisons. Offenders who violate those programs’ terms are sent to jail.
 
  Cox says he’s seeking permission to add more beds but that the women’s section doesn’t have enough space. 
 
  The jail was last expanded in 2001.
