Evansville Council Considering New Hotel Plan

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A big cut in the proposed city support for a 12-story hotel and apartment complex in downtown Evansville has some City Council members reconsidering their opposition to the plan.
 
The council decided during a meeting Monday night to wait a week before voting on the city's financial backing for the estimated $74 million project. That came after Mayor Lloyd Winnecke presented a new plan cutting the city's subsidy from $37.5 million to $20 million.
 
Project supporters say a new downtown hotel is needed to boost Evansville's convention business.
 
The Evansville Courier & Press reports council vice president Dan Adams has been against the city funding but now says it is right for the council to take some time reviewing the revised plan.
