Hair Length Lawsuit

DECATUR COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Parents in southern Indiana have won their appeal regarding the hair length of their kids.

A federal appeals court ruled against the Greensburg Community School Corporation's regulation that required short hair on all boy basketball players. A judge with the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the regulation violated federal equal protection laws.

The judge’s decision also reversed a lower courts decision. One couple sued the district after their son was kicked off his junior high basketball team for refusing to cut his hair above the ears, eyebrows and collar. The teams coach said the rule was in place to promote team unity and a “clean cut” image.
