Fire fills central Indiana supermarket with smoke

LEBANON, Ind. (AP): A fire filled a central Indiana supermarket with smoke, causing the evacuation of about 30 shoppers and employees from the store.

The fire broke out Tuesday evening in the Kroger store in Lebanon. City police Sgt. Ben Phelps says the workers and customers were already outside when emergency workers arrived and that no injuries were reported.

The fire was confined to the produce case area, but the cause wasn't immediately determined.

The store closed so firefighters could clear smoke from the building in the city about 15 miles northwest of Indianapolis. Officials said the store could remain closed for up to two days for cleaning and the replacement of some food items.
