LAPORTE, Ind. (AP) – The parents of a northern Indiana teenager slain more than two decades ago say they consider it a “miracle” that there's finally been a conviction in her strangulation death.

A LaPorte County jury found 39-year-old Jason Tibbs of LaPorte guilty of murder Friday in the 1993 death of 16-year-old Rayna Rison.

Bennie and Karen Rison tell WSBT-TV they had wondered for two decades what happened to their daughter and why.

Bennie Rison says Tibbs' conviction is “a miracle” because few 20-year-old cold cases are resolved. He sat through Tibbs' trial and endured disturbing testimony, but says he wanted to know what happened to his daughter.

Bennie Rison says not all of his questions were answered, but “a big share of them” were.

Tibbs' sentencing is scheduled for December 19th.
