Indiana Jobless Rate Steady at 5.9 Percent in July

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana's unemployment rate remained steady at 5.9 percent for July, leaving the state with a slightly better jobless mark than the national level.

The state Department of Workforce Development said Monday that Indiana added nearly 10,000 private sector jobs last month while also seeing growth in the size of the labor force. Officials say Indiana's labor force has grown in the past year by about 54,000 workers, or about 1.7 percent. That is a faster pace than the national labor face growth of 0.2 percent.

The national unemployment rate for July stood at 6.2 percent, going up one-tenth of a percentage point from June.
Federal figures show about 192,000 people were looking for jobs in Indiana last month.
