JASPER, Ind. (AP) _ Officials in a southern Indiana city are warning residents not to drink its tap water because of safety concerns.
Jasper officials told residents on Wednesday that any water used for drinking or cooking should first be boiled for at least five minutes.
The Herald reports the water's higher-than-normal amounts of manganese are having an adverse effect on the chlorine level.
Officials say manganese is a naturally occurring mineral found in rock formations. The 15,000-person city about 50 miles northeast of Evansville draws its water from the Patoka River.
The city has set up a station to provide up to 5 gallons of water to residents from another water system.
