HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) _ The Indiana NAACP president wants two northwest Indiana police officers who broke a car window then used a stun gun on a man during a stop for not wearing a seat belt put on desk duty.
The Times of Munster reports Barbara Bolling-Williams said during a news conference Friday at the Hammond Police Department that the officers shouldn't be allowed back on street duty until an investigation is completed. The Post-Tribune of Merrillville reports NAACP members want more training for officers to respect the rights of residents.
A lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court against several officers and the city alleging they used excessive force during the stop. The police department referred calls for comment to its attorneys' office. A spokeswoman there declined comment to The Associated Press.
