One Person Dies in Shelbyville House Fire

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities say one person has died in a central Indiana house fire in which most members of a family were able to escape.

They say the Shelbyville Fire Department was called about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday to a home on the south side of the city about 20 miles south of Indianapolis. Family members outside of the home said someone was still inside. Firefighters entered the structure and found the person, who was pronounced dead on the scene.

The name of the person killed was not immediately released.

With temperatures in the low teens, firefighters also had to battle the elements, but were able to bring the blaze under control quickly. They say the home sustained major damage.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
