WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Officials in West Lafayette are still trying to decide what should be done with the mold-filled City Hall.
The 44-year-old building has been vacant since February, when workers discovered there was a pervasive mold problem. A city-commissioned study determined there are three options for the building. City leaders can either choose to completely renovate the building, repair it within building code requirements or demolish it and use the land for redevelopment.
The study estimated a renovation would cost between $5.2 million and $5.6 million, while repairs would cost between $3.8 million and $4 million. It would cost between $380,000 and $450,000 for the building to be razed.
Mayor John Dennis tells the Journal and Courier he believes razing the building is the best option because it's the most cost-effective.
