Suspect Dies When Stolen Car Crashes into Tree

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Indianapolis police say a suspect driving a stolen car died when the vehicle crashed into a tree during a high-speed police chase.

A woman told police she started her car Friday morning and went back inside her home to let it warm up. When she came back outside, the car was gone.

A half-hour later, officers received a 911 call indicating that GPS tracking had located the stolen vehicle.

An officer who found the car in that area pulled the male driver over. But that person drove off and led the officer on a brief, high-speed chase before the car struck a tree in an impact that left the vehicle badly smashed and in pieces.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet identified him.
