Woman dies in pre-dawn house fire near Elkhart

ELKHART, Ind. (AP): Northern Indiana authorities say a woman was killed in an early morning house fire near Elkhart.

Cleveland Township Fire Department Assistant Chief Mike Graham says woman was the only person at home when it caught fire around 6:15 a.m. Friday. Authorities have not released the woman's name or age.

Graham says the house two miles southwest of Elkhart's airport was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. The house was heavily damaged, with only charred beams and a chimney remaining.

Graham says the fire does not appear to be suspicious, but the State Fire Marshal's office is investigating.
