INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Browns general manager Ray Farmer says he alone is responsible for sending text messages to the sideline last season in violation of NFL rules.
 
Farmer told reporters Thursday in Indianapolis that nobody asked him to contact the coaches and that he was “owning up to the mistake.'' Decision-makers from all 32 NFL teams are in Indy this week for the NFL's annual scouting combine.
 
Farmer says he will accept whatever punishment the NFL sets but that it is in the league's hands and appreciates the support he's gotten from team owner Jimmy Haslam.
 
On the field, Farmer says he wants to increase the competition at all positions including quarterback as the Browns await the return of Johnny Manziel from a treatment program.
