INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Democrats in the Indiana Legislature say the proposed changes to the state's religious objections law don't go far enough to protect all people from discrimination.
House Minority Leader Scott Pelath said Thursday he wanted to hear someone among the state's Republican leadership admit they've made a grave mistake in approving a law that's done much damage to the state.
The proposed changes from Republican leaders prohibit service providers from using the law as a legal defense for refusing to provide services, goods, facilities or accommodations.
A legislative panel is considering the proposal Thursday morning and the House and Senate could vote on it later in the day.
The gay-rights group Freedom Indiana says the proposal is a step in the right direction but statewide nondiscrimination protections for homosexuals don't exist.
