Two Dead Dogs in Muncie May Have Been Used in Dog-Fighting

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP): The director of a central Indiana animal shelter says two dogs found dead over the weekend in Muncie had scars which suggest the animals were used in dog fighting.

Muncie Animal Shelter director Phil Peckinpaugh says that the faces of two pit bulls found dead Saturday “were pretty riddled with scars.'' The director says that suggests they had been used for dog fighting. The animals were found wrapped in trash bags.

Muncie police officers also found a dead pit bull and a badly malnourished pit bull Saturday in a car in Muncie. Peckinpaugh says the dead pit bull had been on a leash in the vehicle and had inadvertently hanged itself in the car. Muncie police say a detective would look into that case.
