Gary Woman Charged With Murder, Kidnapping in Anderson Mother’s Death

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): A 36-year-old Gary woman has been charged with murder, kidnapping and criminal confinement in the death of a 23-year-old Anderson woman police believe she duped into believing she was a child-welfare worker.

Geraldine Jones was charged Monday in Madison Circuit Court in the death of Samantha Fleming. Anderson Police Sgt. Chad Boynton said police have not yet been in contact with Jones, who he said is being treated in Texas for depression. He said police were preparing to contact Jones as soon as possible.

Fleming's body was found Friday in Jones' Gary home. Fleming's infant daughter was being held by Jones' sister, who told police she had been caring for her sister's child. Police determined the child was Fleming's and the child was returned to relatives in Indianapolis.
