Indianapolis Police Fatally Shoot Suspect In Carjacking

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indianapolis police say a carjacking suspect was fatally shot by police on the city's northeast side after he accelerated a vehicle at officers.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release that officers spotted a vehicle Sunday night matching the description of one that was carjacked and tried to stop it.

According to police, the vehicle's driver attempted to make a U-turn at a dead end, and rammed it into a police vehicle. The department says multiple passengers ran from the suspect's vehicle, but the driver refused officers' commands to get out.

Police say the driver accelerated at officers, and they fired at him. According to police, the suspect got out of the vehicle holding a firearm and immediately collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
