INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a Nativity scene displayed each December for half a century outside an eastern Indiana courthouse.
Judge Tanya Walton Pratt ruled this week there's no proof of a constitutional violation and said any alleged misconduct was corrected when Franklin County officials enacted an ordinance regulating use of the courthouse lawn.
The Indianapolis Star reports (http://indy.st/1jiDbWa ) county officials adopted that ordinance shortly after the suit was filed.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana sued the county in December on behalf of the Madison, Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation.
ACLU of Indiana attorney Gavin Rose says he's disappointed with the ruling.
The Thomas More Society, a Chicago-based law firm representing Franklin County, called the ruling a victory for religious liberty.
