INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): The swerving, merging and backups on I-65 on the south side of Indianapolis will hopefully be over for thousands of drivers. 

The three and a half mile, $36 million construction project was a nightmare for commuters, especially during rush hours. The project began in March and now all lanes are open. 

Harry Maginity with INDOT, says the road was worn-out. All of these interstate projects done 55 years ago were only built to last 25 years. 

For $36 million, commuters get a road surface expected to last 17 years before it needs to be repaved. There is an auxiliary lane between ramps. Instead of four lanes, there are six.
