MUNSTER, Ind. (AP) _ The South Shore rail commuter line in northern Indiana has experimented with bike racks on commuter trains.
The (Munster) Times reports (http://bit.ly/1Hu10oT ) that the trial runs the past two weekends have given a limited number of bike riders a chance to try out the storage.
The Northwest Indiana Commuter Transportation District, which operates the line, is working to implement a regular weekend schedule of bicycle cars this spring.
The South Shore plans to install racks that can carry 25 to 30 bicycles per three cars. Riders will be able to load and unload bicycles at high level platforms on select weekend trains.
The spring start-up date was established after complaints of plans to allow bikes on trains in 2021.
