INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles says it will resume its vanity license plate program Friday after suspending it for nearly three years amid a lawsuit with a police officer who said he was wrongly denied a plate that said “0INK.”

Customers registering new vehicles or renewing their registration will be able to apply for a personalized license plate either online or at a BMV branch.

The program was previously placed on hiatus after a Greenfield police officer sued the BMV for not allowing him to get the personalized plate. The Indiana Supreme Court ruled in November that the BMV had the authority to deny the plate, which the department said was offensive.
