FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): If you have an overdue parking ticket, you’ll be hearing from the new City Clerk.

In the past, fines have been randomly enforced and unpaid violations have cost the city nearly a million dollars since 2010. Lana Keesling tells the News-Sentinel that the city will get notices out quicker and more frequently. They report $89,295 in overdue fines have already piled up just for this year alone.

Tickets are overdue if not paid within 30 days, and plates can be suspended if it reaches 45 days, along with an order to show up in court.

However, Keesling admits that some fines simply can’t be collected. She also says from those that can be collected, wages could be garnished if violators still fail to play.

She also says that enforcing the current parking law will help open more parking for visitors and downtown shoppers.
