Fort Wayne accuses Allen County Auditor of fire district tax mistake

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): There’s a legal fight brewing between the City of Fort Wayne and the Allen County Auditor.

The City claims they lost out on property tax revenues due to an error on Auditor Tera Klutz’s part, arguing they never got tax money from the areas annexed between 1987 and 2006 on the southwest side of town, claiming it went to the Southwest Allen County Fire Protection District when it should’ve gone to the City’s Fire Department instead.

Klutz says she did everything right, according to the Journal Gazette, and adds she’s provided the city with a review of the statutes, plus a comment from the Indiana Attorney General.

City spokesman John Perlich tells the newspaper the goal of the lawsuit is to fix things moving forward.

The story was first reported by our Partners in News at 21Alive. There’s no word yet on just how much money is at stake.
