AUBURN, Ind. (WOWO): An area healthcare provider had their computer systems taken down last week by a virus.

DeKalb Health was hit by ransomware, according to our partners in news at 21Alive. That’s a type of software that lets criminals hold a computer’s information hostage unless a speficied “ransom” is paid, or until security can otherwise be restored.

In this case, the attack affected the hospital’s administrative computer systems.

DeKalb Health CEO Craig Polkow says most of their systems have been restored, and an investigation is underway while they try to restore the rest and track down who’s responsible.
