INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks is pursuing support for the Republican nomination for Indiana governor if Gov. Mike Pence becomes Donald Trump’s running mate.

Two members of the Indiana Republican state committee tell The Associated Press they’ve talked with Brooks in recent days about her interest in the position.

The committee members say U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita has made similar calls, as have supporters of Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb.

Pence has been in a contentious re-election campaign and would have until noon Friday to withdraw his name as a candidate for governor since state law prevents him from seeking two offices at once.

A Brooks spokeswoman says a final decision on a gubernatorial bid hasn’t been made.

Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma declined Thursday to comment about possibly seeking the nomination.

Brooks was born in Fort Wayne and graduated from Homestead High School.
